Voting Rights pioneer Rep. John Lewis D-GA

Rep. John Lewis, as a young man was beaten severely during a march advocating Voting Rights for black people; a march against the poll tax, the "literacy test," and other methods of voter suppression used in the South since the end of Slavery. 
The Voting Rights Act was signed by President Johnson in 1965.
