This painting was done from a photograph I took in Portugal in 2018, while I was there with friends on a walking tour of the Douro River Valley, which is a wine producing area. The photo was actually taken through the window of a bus on a winding mountain road! Thank goodness for the distraction of the beautiful scenery!

It was done from a photograph I took of the demolition of the old Astro III movie theater on College Avenue in Clemson. we enjoyed many movies in that not-so-old building!

It was done from a still life setup I photographed in the summer of 2022. It features my lucky Yellow Bird and a pot de creme given to me by a friend. I like the play of light and shadow and enjoyed the challenge of rendering a white object using subtle grays.

This large painting was done from the same photograph as the one I used for the small 10" x 10" painting, "Mountain River 1." The composition held up very well in this large painting, I thought, and the elements--trees, rocks, rushing water--combined to make this painting successful.

This small painting was done from a photograph I took in the summer of 2022 at Mac Smith's Diner on the Lebanon Road just outside of Pendleton, SC. The composition, the colors, and the activity appealed to me. I did a larger, 20" x 20" version of it in October of 2022.
